A new partnership has been announced by Truckers Radio USA.
Truckers Radio USA is the media sponsor for the Santa Fe Trail 200. Deb Goodrich is recording a weekly podcast with the help of our honorary chair, Michael Martin Murphey, doing the intros and promos as only he can.
Truckers Radio USA is the brainchild of country music legend, Rex Allen, Jr., and the legendary radio personality and bluegrass/western music star, Jim Farrell. Jim's wife, Martha, handles advertising and promotion. As we sat in their studio in Tawanda, Kansas, we allowed we have about 150 years of media experience between us. As chair of the Santa Fe Trail 200, I could not be more excited about this collaboration.
Martha made the announcement on Facebook:
“The Santa Fe Trail Lives On!” Truckers Radio USA is very proud to be media sponsor for the 200th anniversary of the Santa Fe Trail. In June 1821 William Becknell published a notice in the Missouri Intelligencer newspaper soliciting participants for a trip “to the westward for the purpose of trading for Horses & Mules, and catching Wild Animals of every description, that we may think advantageous.” Today's truckers travel many of the same 900 miles in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado.
We'll be sharing a lot of history of the trail as well as the events being planned for this year in a new 5 minute podcast called "Tales of the Trail". Our host is Director of the Santa Fe Trail 200, Deb Goodrich. Deb is a historian and well known media personality in the Kansas area, and we're honored to have her with us. She's great!"
The theme song is "Along the Santa Fe Trail," featured on Murph's Tall Grass & Cool Water: Cowboy Songs VI and Buckaroo Bluegrass III (which is perhaps my favorite album by Murph, but then, which of his albums isn't?).
You can hear "Tales of the Trail" every Saturday morning at 9:55 am Central Time, right before "Western Swing & Other Things". It will encore on three afternoons: Saturday at 4, Sunday at 5, and Tuesday at 1 (All Central Time). Martha added, "We can't wait to share it with you. Listen on TruckersRadioUSA.com."
I have to add, listen to Truckers Radio USA any time you can. You might hear Dolly Parton on a lot of radio stations, but where can you hear Porter Wagner?
Yep, a lotta legends going on with Truckers Radio USA!
Deb Goodrich is the co-host, with Michelle Martin, of Around Kansas (another proud media sponsor of the Santa Fe Trail 200) andthe Garvey Texas Historian in Residence at the Fort Wallace Museum, and chair of the Santa Fe Trail 200. Contact her at author.debgoodrich@gmail.com.
